Em tempos de maior turbulência e incerteza nas sociedades contemporâneas como a que vivemos, uma primeira questão assola o nosso pensamento: O que significa ser humano em tempos como estes? Perante esta incerteza, um dos primeiros impulsos será o de procurar na história respaldo para os acontecimentos. Tentamos, assim, desenhar ligações estreitas entre passado e presente, de modo a percebermos como poderemos persistir no futuro, para entendermos, no íntimo, o que significa a vida em tempos de crise. Na sociedade contemporânea, o fluxo de informação pode ser usado como controlo dessa mesma sociedade ou como ferramenta unificadora do indivíduo para com o plural. Cabe, não só mas também, à sociedade académica criar laços operativos e escrutinar a informação, para que o sujeito seja conhecedor do seu passado real, tenha perfeito entendimento do seu presente e consiga exercer domínio sobre o seu futuro.
In times of greater turbulence and uncertainty in contemporary societies such as the one we live in, a first question plagues our thinking: What does it mean to be human in times like these? Faced with this uncertainty, one of the first impulses will be to look for support for events in history. We try, therefore, to draw close connections between past and present, in order to understand how we can persist in the future, to understand, intimately, what life means in times of crisis. In contemporary society, the flow of information can be used as a control of that same society or as a unifying tool between the individual and the plural. It is up to, not only but also, academic society to create operative ties and scrutinize information, so that the subject is aware of his real past, has a perfect understanding of his present and manages to exercise dominion over his future.
A humanidade não funciona enquanto entidade singular num mundo cada vez mais plural. Espelho disso foi o recente estado pandémico a que assistimos globalmente enquanto sociedade moderna. Os elos de ligação entre indivíduos eram, até então, dados adquiridos, como que layers cumulativos e associativos do que entendíamos enquanto comunidade. Repentinamente, esses direitos constitutivos da nossa conquista moderna foram-nos retirados. Após a primeira onde de choque, o que nos manteve unidos dentro de casa foi a capacidade intrínseca de nos mantermos próximos, embora fisicamente separados, por grandes ou pequenas distâncias.
Humanity does not function as a single entity in an increasingly pluralistic world. A mirror of this was the recent pandemic state that we witnessed globally as a modern society. The connecting links between individuals were, until then, acquired data, like cumulative and associative layers of what we understood as a community. Suddenly, these constitutive rights of our modern conquest were taken away from us. After the first shock wave, what kept us together inside the house was the intrinsic ability to stay close, though physically separated, over large or small distances.
O mote que a Academia de Escolas de Arquitetura e Urbanismo de Língua Portuguesa propõe para o V Seminário é o adjetivar as relações que mantiveram as pessoas próximas, que se refletiu não só no capital humano, mas também no capital da estrutura da cidade. Pretendemos reativar estas relações. Reconquistar as que se perderam, solidificar as que se mantiveram e exaltar as que se construíram de novo e ainda mantêm. Proximidades distantes é a antonímia que tenta tornar real essas experiências. Procura dar voz a uma ‘língua que todos habitamos’ e na qual todos estes pensamentos de proximidade e afastamento, de ciência e de vox populis se manifestam. É importante restabelecer os laços que ficaram adormecidos, mas também partilhar esta nossa experiência enquanto organismo social, enquanto comunidade.
The motto that the Academy of Portuguese Language Schools of Architecture and Urbanism proposes for the V Seminar is to describe the relationships that kept people close, which was reflected not only in human capital, but also in the capital of the city structure. We intend to reactivate these relationships, to reconquer those that were lost, solidify those that were maintained and exalt those that were built anew and still remain. Distant proximity is the antonym that tries to make these experiences real. It seeks to give voice to a language that we all inhabit and in which all these thoughts of proximity and distance, science and vox populi manifest themselves. It is important to re-establish the ties that have become dormant, but also to share this experience of ours as a social organism, as a community.
